About Professor Dr. Leweke

Professor Markus Leweke is an internationally renowned Clinical Psychiatrist who brings world-class academic rigour to his private clinical practice. His medical journey began with studies at the University of Cologne and the University of New South Wales, followed by extensive specialist training in both psychiatry and neurology at leading institutions across Germany.

With a special focus on early intervention, Professor Leweke is dedicated to helping patients navigate the early stages of mental health disorders to improve long-term outcomes. His broad clinical expertise covers the diagnosis and treatment of affective disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder, as well as anxiety, psychosis, and trauma-related conditions. He also maintains a strong interest in disorders affecting attention, focus, and emotional regulation.

Professor Leweke is a strong advocate for a comprehensive approach to mental health, emphasising accurate diagnostic procedures to ensure patients receive a conclusive diagnosis and the most suitable care. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and an accredited supervisor for specialist training in psychiatry. His background includes board certifications in psychiatry, psychotherapy, and neurology from German State Medical Boards, providing him with a comprehensive perspective on brain health.

Beyond his clinical work, he is a recognised expert in psychopharmacology and was awarded the prestigious 2015 DGPPN Prize for his pioneering research on endocannabinoids and mental health. He has published more than 270 research papers and book articles.

Professor Leweke is a Fellow of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP) and the International College of Neuropsychopharmacology (CINP). He is also a Member of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP), the German Association for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics (DGPPN), the German College for Neuropsychopharmacology (AGNP), the International Cannabinoid Research Society (ICRS), the Society of Biological Psychiatry (SOBP), and the Schizophrenia International Research Society (SIRS).
