MD, PhD, FRACS, Fellow AOA
Dr Zoltan Szomor has more than 25 years’ experience as an orthopaedic surgeon and specialises in hip and knee surgery, including joint replacement, hip and knee primary and revision arthroplasty, and knee reconstruction and arthroscopic surgery.
Dr Szomor is one of the first orthopaedic surgeons in Australia to practice the minimally-invasive, tissue-sparing surgical technique for total hip replacement—the SuperPATH. This technique usually leads to a quicker recovery and accelerated rehabilitation, while minimising pain. For total knee replacements, he uses one of the most advanced, ceramic-coated knee replacements.
Dr Szomor completed his advanced orthopaedic training with the Australian Orthopaedic Association Training Program and was elected to be a Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He completed a PhD Degree at the University of New South Wales, performing cutting-edge musculoskeletal research. He also completed an 18-month fellowship at Kyoto University, Japan, focusing on arthroplasty and cartilage research, as well as a fellowship in Sydney in 1997 and 1998.
Dr Szomor’s strong interest and ongoing commitment in research resulted in over 50 scientific papers being published in international journals and he has presented close to 100 scientific papers at national and international conferences.
